I love the gym. It’s where I spend time doing what I enjoy. I’m motivated by knowing I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, and I’m doing things I never thought I would be able to do. Like pull-ups for example, not only can I actually do them now, but I can also do some weighted ones which is a huge accomplishment for me! When I’m doing deadlifts or squats, I’m so focused on what I’m doing that it clears my mind of everything else going on in my life. It’s a mental break for me, and I never leave the gym thinking, “I shouldn’t have spent time doing that.”
I’ve always been pretty active but it wasn’t until I joined 24/7 where I really started to train consistently. Over the past year I’ve had some health issues that prevented me from doing some of my regular training which was really discouraging for me, but in the process I found some new activities I’ve never done before (mountain biking and in-line skating for example), and shifted my training into something I was able to do at the time.
As far as training accomplishments, I have been an Armlifting athlete since 2019 and have competed in not only local competitions, but I have also been invited to compete on a world class level since my first year in the sport. It’s what I enjoy most, so if you see me doing random grip training at the gym, that’s what it’s for! I am also the director for the women’s division for Armlifting USA, and hope to get more women involved in the sport. My goals are to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone and continue to try new things. We are all capable of more than we think, and I try to remind myself of that, especially while at the gym.
Years ago I tried a couple of the FitZone classes which I enjoyed, but the EliteFit space downstairs is what I really love! I enjoy using the equipment such as the yoke, sled, farmers carries and log press. I’ve checked out just about all of the gyms in the area and this is the only one with strongman equipment as nice as the ones 24/7 offers.
